GRETZKY: Move Over Bobby Orr, Here Comes GRETZKY

Another press milestone for Wayne Gretzky was when he earned a chapter in a Hockey Book. The photo above is the first of the 3 pages he was designated. The author was especially prophetic in naming the Chapter: Move Over Bobby Orr, Here Comes GRETZKY.

The photo above is from a ProStars baseball tournament and Wayne is actually getting an autograph from Bobby Orr.

GRETZKY : The BIG League's.

In this section I am just giving the reader an opportunity to follow Wayne's professional career in brief. Elsewhere I have provided links to an in-depth look at the Great One. Scroll images for Links to brief overviews of each team.

The Great Years in Edmonton On Wayne's 18th birthday he signed a long term personal services contract with the Edmonton Oilers and proceeded to become a fan favorite everywhere. Clicking on the image above will take you to a profile of his Oiler's days. Clicking on the image below will take you to Pt.1 of a three part interview with Wayne.

Here he is with his famous hockey dad Walter.

This has to be one of my all time favorite's of Gretzky. I have always considered him a dancer, a Ballerina on ice. A Baryshkanov on skates if you will.

Gretzky Collector's Or Poster Fans for Bad Behaviour? (July 6, 2003)If there is one thing I have observed as a hobbyist who often sells items from my Wayne Gretzky collection, it is how most of 99's "item worshippers", are his complete antithesis. In a world that rarely has any new shock value for me, at first, this defied even my logic??

GRETZKY: HIS FIRST PRESS COVERAGE

tel.JPG
No. 9 with big No. 9 aspirations.
By JOHN IABONI...Toronto Telegram

My first significant press coverage took place in Brantford at the rink. The reporter John Iaboni, came to watch me play a hockey game and then wrote the following Story. It was published in the Toronto Telegram October 28, 1971. Once again I was very lucky because the Telegram Newspaper actually folded on or close to October 30th, 1971. If it had folded a couple of days sooner, it is unlikely my story would ever have been told.

The Great One in Video Clips.

Wow, what a great site put out by CBC, (Canadian Broadcasting Company). If you are a Gretzky fan like I am, you will love going back and actually re-experiencing his career. I can recall so many of the moments shown, but even if you cannot, you will feel like you have lived it with him by the time you are finished.

Follow the topic guide. If you really want to have a fun experience, give the whole thing a run through.

The Great Wayne Gretzky
Jan.26,1960-Dec.31,1988

By now it's practically hockey legend. Wayne Gretzky started playing the game in the backyard rink built by his dad. It marked the beginning of the most spectacular career in hockey history. From the time Gretzky donned his first pair of skates at age two to the shocking trade that took him south of the border, we look at how the "Great One" set the bar higher for Canada's favourite game.

“Men In Suits”: Wayne Gretzky Leads the Oiler Re-Union.

Once dubbed the, “Boys On The Bus”, this core group of elite Oiler’s have not been together since winning their fourth cup in five years during the 1988 NHL season. Just week’s later Wayne Gretzky was traded to LA and the rest is hockey history.

Saturday November 22, 2003 is a very exciting day for those of us who grew up watching the Great One as an Edmonton Oiler. He was awesome then and I have no doubt he will be awesome again in this historic outdoor alumni game.
